How to convert handwriting to Excel
Snap your table
Upload a photo, scan, PDF or TIFF of a handwritten ledger, register, log sheet or any page with a table. We use the first page.
Get a real table back
Our engine reads the handwriting and rebuilds the grid — rows, columns, headers and numbers — not a blob of text you have to retype.
Download as Excel
Export the result as an .xlsx spreadsheet ready for sums and sorting — or copy the text, or save it as PDF or Word.
From paper ledger to working spreadsheet — without retyping
Most OCR tools flatten a handwritten table into a wall of text, and you end up retyping every cell anyway. Inksight's free handwriting-to-Excel converter uses the same recognition engine as the Inksight app to find the grid on the page — account ledgers, cash books, attendance registers, inventory lists, timesheets, production logs — and rebuild it as a real table. Numbers come out as numeric cells, so totals, sorting and formulas work in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice the moment you open the file.
Page doesn't have a table? You still get clean, editable text with PDF and Word export — same as our handwriting-to-text converter. And if you're digitizing a whole ledger book or a season of field records, see how field teams use Inksight or grab the Android app to scan multi-page documents — 20 pages free every month, with Excel export included in Inksight Pro.
Frequently asked questions
Is this handwriting-to-Excel converter free?+
Yes. You can convert one image per day completely free, with no account required. For whole notebooks and multi-page ledgers, the Inksight Android app scans 20 pages free every month; Excel export in the app is part of Inksight Pro.
How do I convert a handwritten table to Excel?+
Take a clear photo of the page, drop it into the tool above, and wait a few seconds while the handwriting is transcribed. When a table is detected, an Excel button appears next to the result — click it to download a real .xlsx file with your rows and columns intact.
Does it keep my rows, columns and numbers lined up?+
Yes. Tables are reconstructed as actual tables, not flattened into lines of text. Numbers are exported as numeric cells where possible, so you can sum and sort them in Excel straight away. Ruled ledger paper, hand-drawn grids and column headings all help the engine find the structure.
Can it read messy or cursive handwriting in tables?+
Yes. The model is trained on hurried real-world handwriting — shop ledgers, attendance registers, field logs — not just neat print. Very faint strokes or heavily overlapping corrections are what trip up any OCR, so a sharp, well-lit photo gives the best spreadsheet.
What kinds of documents work best?+
Anything tabular: account ledgers and cash books, attendance and enrollment registers, inventory and stock lists, timesheets and duty rosters, production and shift logs, lab records, scorebooks and order lists. Pages without a table still work — you just get clean text with PDF and Word export instead of the Excel button.
What file formats can I upload?+
Any common image (JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP), plus PDF and multi-page TIFF. For PDFs and TIFFs we convert the first page.
What languages does it support?+
The engine reads handwriting in dozens of languages and scripts, including Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew and many Indic and Southeast Asian scripts — including mixed-language ledgers with local-script entries and Western numerals.
Do my images get stored?+
No. Images are processed to extract text and are not saved. We only record a hashed, anonymized fingerprint to enforce the one-free-scan-per-day limit — never your raw IP address.
I have a whole ledger book — can I convert all of it?+
That's what the Inksight Android app is for: scan page after page with your camera, keep them together as one document, and export the lot. The free plan includes 20 pages a month; Inksight Pro adds unlimited-length documents and Excel export.
